Red Tower Eastern Poplar

(Populus deltoides `Purple Tower`)
This plant is currently unavailable.

It is a wonderful new bred of ornamental trees! With good nutrient and water supply, it is able to grow almost explosively. We planted a few smaller (around 30 cm) specimens in 40-litre containers and they have become approx. 2-m tall trees with a canopy by the autumn, in addition, they have had beautifully shining bronze-red leaves as big as two palms! Planted outdoors striving upwards like a tower, and while it is shooting the foliage is beautiful bronze-red! The mature leaves are bronze-dark-green with reddish veins!

Its basic species, the giant Eastern Cottonwood (Populus deltoides), which is native to North America, is widely used and planted for forestry purpose there. The annual growth is around one and a half or two metres, so it can be as tall as 40 metres when mature!

In Polish breeders` opinion, the Purple Tower can also achieve a similar height! Such a tall tree with burgundy foliage is a decisive element of a landscape!

Small garden owners do not have to give up this beautiful ornamental tree either! The only thing to do is just carefully cut back the side branches up to 10 cm every spring, or, as we say in the business: we set maximum! As the tree will have stronger and stronger root-system every year, after these cutting-back procedures ? a few years later - starts shooting with elemental forces every spring, brings huge red leaves and lends a wonderful splash of colour to the garden! Plant it at a place with full blazing sun so as to be as colourful as can be! It is not soil choosy and tolerates cold up to minus 35 degrees of centigrade too!
