There is growing interest in column-shaped fruit varieties that can be raised in the narrow gardens occupying small areas or even on balconies and terraces. Earlier columnar apple varieties (e.g. the sorts of the Ballerina group) were susceptible to several diseases and so they did not meet fully the customers` expectations, because who wants to spray near their living areas?!! And in general, let`s avoid using chemicals wherever possible!
The new `Proficats` columnar apple series of the Research Institute of Geisenheim fully satisfies this rightful demand! These sensational new varieties resist to all apple diseases, but at least show a very high resistance, so they can be grown completely free of chemicals!
Besides eco- and bio-production possibilities, these varieties regularly bear fruit abundantly, and the fruit quality is excellent too!
The shape, colour and taste of the sort Starcats is similar to the well-known Elstar: slightly flattened, striped, light-red in colour and very delicious! It ripens in early September, can be stored through long period of time, the tree is robust, of medium vigorous growth.
