 It is a 2-4-metre tall shrub with shiny light green foliage that enjoys high respect among the people of the Mediterranean and the Near-East region since ancient times. Its ancient homeland is probably Afghanistan, but according to research, it was grown in the fields of Israel already 5000 years ago, moreover, the Egyptians already made wine from the fruit and used different parts of the plant for medical purposes 4000 years ago. Plenty of fruit bearing and ornamental versions are known. Several hundreds of cultivars are still being grown in Iran. Its large, funnel-shaped coral red flowers are blooming throughout the summer. Its very tasty large fruits ripe in October.
